Song composed of very clear, steady frequency whistles descending in three stages at 4.6, 4.3, and 3.5 kHz. Often rendered phonetically as Old Sam Peabody Peabody Peabody.

Singing from undergrowth of fairly open, sunlit maple/oak/spruce forest with a rich understory.

Call from a female composed of loud, metallic-sounding chink elements (c5.2-5.5 kHz).

Calling from dense understory of maple/oak/spruce forest.
