Calling song/stridulation from a male Southern Sickle-bearing
Bush-cricket (Phaneroptera nana) in riverside browfield site with Buddleia (Buddleja davidii), Bramble (Rubus fruticosus) and Traveller's Joy (Clematis vitalba) at 19:30h (23°C).
A single, faint, largely ultrasonic syllable repeated
every 0.8 seconds. Mostly inaudible to my ears,
except at very close range with microphone right next
to the insect (much louder with bat detector set to 16-20
kHz). This male started singing from a Bramble leaf just
before sunset and attracted a female within a few minutes,
with copulation following immediately.
