Scarlet-banded Barbet (Capito wallacei)
Cerro Cinco Puntas, Parque Nacional Cordillera Azul, SW Loreto, Peru
Recently discovered in 1996 and described in 2000 by John O'Neill and Dan Lane. Known only from a single peak in a remote area of eastern Peru. Seen in the flesh by only a handful of observers.
This poor, record image was taken on 15/08/05 with a compact digital camera. I really wish I had taken my DSLR and 400mm lens!
