Calling song from male House
Cricket (Acheta domesticus) inside a crack
in footpath along River Thames wharf.
A loud, far-carrying, medium-pitched
tropical/Mediterranean sounds, seemingly out of place
here, composed of ~4 double or triple-elements/sec at 18°C.
Observed at close range with torch light. Females and
nymphs of various ages also present at the site.

Courtship song from a captive male House
Cricket (Acheta domesticus) with a female
in a vivarium - from a wild population just metres away
along a River Thames wharf. One female we kept in captivity
lived until 23.01.23.
